Woodworking business in Kingsford gets permit for home shop
KINGSFORD — The Kingsford City Council has approved a home occupation permit for Timeless Woodworking LLC in Kingsford.
The business is operated by Aaron Richards and his wife, Amber. He makes small wood projects, such as cribbage boards, cutting boards and crosses.
Richards said he constructed the 24-by-30-foot garage at 613 Roycroft St. with 6-inch walls and 6 inches of insulation, an insulated garage door and roof so it would be mostly noise-free.
Kyle Mulka, the city’s assessor, said from across the street he could hear only a low hum. The city received only one negative response, from the owner of the rental house next door.
Rosy Stolze, who lives nearby, was concerned about increased traffic to the house given the young children in the neighborhood, but she was assured most of the items created for the business are sold online and at craft shows.
In other business, the council Monday:
— Re-elected Joe Groeneveld as mayor and Daniel Freeman as mayor pro-tem. All committee appointments remained the same.
— Reappointed James Cain and Mark Spencer to the city planning commission and Timothy Gussert and Kathryn Lewis to the citizens advisory committee for three-year terms. Their current terms expire Dec. 31.
— Approved a request to seek bids for tree cutting in the Heights area in anticipation of the next water/sewer project.
— Was advised the city archery hunt has culled 28 deer so far this year, compared with 26 taken in 2023.
— Learned the city will have three skating rinks this year — at Lodal Park, at West Breen Avenue and Beech Street and at Waverly Street and Wilson Avenue.
— Was told a 2005 Ford pickup and the 2019 Dodge Charger from Kingsford Public Safety will be placed for auction on the Wisconsin Surplus site.
— Learned the pavilion kit for Ford Addition Park has arrived and MBM Construction of Kingsford is expected to start building it soon.
