Snowmobile season underway in UP as Dickinson area still waits for snow
Outdoors report
IRON MOUNTAIN — Snowmobile trails remain closed locally due to a lack of snow, while trails to the west are reported as fair to poor in Vilas County, Wis.
To the north, some trails are open in Marquette County with conditions ranging from poor to good. Conditions are better in the Keweenaw area, along with Alger and Schoolcraft counties.
The Newberry-Tahquamenon area received 10 inches of snow earlier this week as the Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association reported “probably the best riding in years.”
About 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall tonight into Sunday morning in the Dickinson County area — probably less than what’s needed for the local trail season to get underway.
Tri-County Snowmobile Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mike’s on Main in Norway.
Michigan’s Off-Road Vehicle Advisory Workgroup will meet at 1 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday in Grayling. An agenda and virtual link can be found at https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/about/boards/mtac/orv.
