MARINETTE, Wis. — A Pound, Wis., woman died Tuesday while an inmate in the Marinette County Jail in Marinette, the county’s sheriff reported.

Marinette County correctional officers were alerted about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday about a medical emergency in one of the jail’s cell pods, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller.

Correctional officers, Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area EMS and Marinette Emergency Rescue Squad were unable to resuscitate the woman, identified as 34-year-old Kristi L. Meverden, according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office, Miller stated in the release.

The matter also will be reviewed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Office of Detention Facilities, Miller said.
