AMBERG, Wis. — Organizers are hoping things will be just “ducky” Saturday for the second-annual Amberg Ducky Day.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Amberg Ball Diamond.

The Amberg Parks and Recreation Committee revived the duck race last year, volunteer Tilly Wollenberg said.

“We heard they used to have this back several years ago for the fire department — someone remembered it,” she said. But for some reason it stopped and the ducks given away.

This version features 2,000 weighted yellow ducks that at 2 p.m. will go into the Pike River just past the Veterans Park. Depending on the flow of the river, it will take the ducks 15 to 30 minutes to reach the finish at Mosquito Park on County Road V, where they will be corralled using nets and floats. Prizes are $500 for first; $250 for second; $150 for third; and $100 for the last duck to float in.

Drawings will award $25 to an additional 20 entries.

The ducks cost $5 each or five for $20, with tickets still available. They can be purchased at Mathis Hardware, Amberg Pub, Amberg Mart and Country Roads Bar and Grill. Tickets will also be for sale at the event until 1:30 p.m. while supplies last.

Each ticket has a number that correlates to a number on a duck.

The event will also have brats and hamburgers for sale, as well as beverages for children and adults.

Music will be provided by Harbor Lights from noon to 3 p.m. and a meat raffle will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Classic rock band Broken Arrow of the Green Bay, Wis. area performs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Amberg Pub after the event.

About 35 baskets will be raffled off, with prizes that include an Airbnb in Athelstane, Wis., and a signed Green Bay Packers football.

Several vendors will be at the event, including a face painter. The kids can enjoy bounce houses.

The all-volunteer Parks and Recreational Committee was formed in September 2023 with a goal of making improvements in Amberg and the Wausaukee and Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine school districts.

Funds from Ducky Day will go toward installing a permanent bathroom at the ball field and possibly adding a playground.

Volunteers established the ball field about 40 years ago, Wollenberg said. It includes a concession area and large pavilion.

“We are trying to keep that alive and make it better,” she said.

They still could use volunteers to help with the event, which will take place rain or shine.

It rained last year — which is good for ducks, Wollenberg joked — but turnout still was good.

She hopes the event will be “quacktastic” this year.

Starting at $3.50/week.
