IRON MOUNTAIN — The public is invited to embrace rolling through the mud and make some memories at the 12th-annual Mountain Mud Sling, set for Saturday morning at Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain.
This family-friendly outdoor event, sponsored by the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center, promises hours of muddy fun and adventure for individuals, families and children of all ages.
Those who enter should get ready to tackle challenges amid the stunning scenery of the resort. Dive into the fun with a slip ‘n’ slide, conquer the legendary Pine Mountain Steps, take the plunge in an ice bath, flip massive tractor tires, navigate through a mud pit, climb over hay bales and more at the event.
This annual community fun run through an obstacle course will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with the last heat starting at 10:30 a.m.
“Dress for mess. Arrive by 8:45 a.m. dressed in an old pair of sneakers and clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy, register and pick up your T-shirt,” said Sandi Bingham, fitness coordinator and race director. “And don’t forget to pack a change of clothes and towel for after the event so you can stay awhile after the race and recover with refreshments or snacks from Famers Restaurant on the Sitzmark deck at Pine Mountain Resort. We are immensely grateful for Pine Mountain Resort’s continued support for this community event.”
Wendy Schmitt, YMCA center director, added, “This year we are excited to introduce some friendly competition — the person with the most laps around the course will be crowned King of the Mountain, complete with a trophy and cash prize.”
Individual registration is $30 for YMCA members and $35 for non-members. Children ages 6 to 12 can register for $20. Team/family registrations are $100 for up to six people, with an additional $10 for each extra team member.
Parking will be available in the resort parking lot.
