Deceased campers ID’d
Authorities say they have identified two people found dead late Sunday afternoon at a remote backcountry campground in Isle Royale National Park.
No names or other information was released on the two, but in a news release Liz Valencia, supervisory park ranger at Isle Royale, said their next of kin have been notified and there was no known threat to the public for now.
Due to the remote location of South Lake Desor Campground near Greenstone Ridge trail, a fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter were used to assist with transportation for the investigation, which remains ongoing, she stated in the news release.
Two rangers hiked overnight 11 miles to the campground to assess the situation, confirming the deaths early Monday, according to a news release from Isle Royale National Park. Additional ground and aviation resources were brought in Monday morning.
The cause of death still has not been released.
