McLain named NLC player of the year

4 Bobcats teammates earn all-league recognition

FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence senior Trent McLain was named the Northern Lakes Conference player of the year in a recent vote by league coaches.

McLain led the Bobcats to a share of the NLC championship. Crandon and Three Lakes/Phelps also won a portion of the conference title.

Aside from McLain, NLC first-team selections included Florence sophomore Mason Koski; Crandon senior Matthew Jahnke, juniors Cruz Palubicki and Trent Palubicki and sophomore Nolan Bradley; Laona/Wabeno junior Walker Winkelman and sophomore Cooper Albrecht; and Three Lakes/Phelps senior Carter Flannery and junior Cruz Melton.

Unanimous picks to the first team included McLain, Cruz Palubicki, Jahnke, Albrecht, Winkelman, Flannery and Melton.

Second-team selections included Florence senior Matt Smith, sophomore Brad Steber and freshman Kade Larson; Crandon senior Mavrik Mayer; Elcho senior Max Lazers and junior RJ Multhauf; Laona/Wabeno sophomore Reegan Roy and freshman Carson Lemerande; and Three Lakes/Phelps seniors Doug Koshuta and Reece Bollman.

Honorable mention was given to Crandon sophomore Reece Mayer, Goodman/Pembine senior Kyle Braaten and sophomore Vinnie Ipsa as well as Laona/Wabeno sophomore Brody Hoffman and freshman Levi Shepard.

Florence finished the season with a record of 13-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
