Escanaba motorcyclist killed in crash
GWINN — An Escanaba resident was killed Friday afternoon in rural Marquette County after the motorcycle he was operating went off the road and struck a utility pole in Marquette County, police said.
The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. Friday on M-35 near the intersection with Marquette County Road 557, according to the Forsyth Township Police Department.
Glenn Daniel Varney, 58, was westbound on M-35 when he apparently lost control of the motorcycle, ending up on the roadway’s shoulder before hitting the pole.
Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, Varney was pronounced dead at the crash site, police stated in a news release.
It is unknown at this time if any other factors contributed to the accident, the FTPD said in a written statement. The FTPD was assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office accident investigation team.
