IRON MOUNTAIN — The annual Field Day set to take place Saturday at Bay College has been canceled.

Mich-A-Con Amateur Radio Club of the Iron Mountain has announced the American Radio Relay League event will not take place due to circumstances beyond their control.

Each year in conjunction with thousands of amateur radio operators from across the country, the club hosts a public demonstration of emergency communication. These ham operators provide backup for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even for the International Space Station in times of need.

The Mich-A-Con Amateur Radio Club plans to reschedule an event this fall to encourage more youth interest. They will get a chance to meet and talk with local ham radio operators, learn about Amateur Radio Service and get their own FCC radio license.
