This week’s Back to the Present is provided by the Menominee Range Historical Museum in Iron Mountain.
The early 1920s photograph features Samuel “Bokey” Khoury and an unidentified friend with a dog in front of the Blackstone Hat Shop and Shoe Shine Parlor at 202 E. B St. in Iron Mountain.
In 1935, the City Directory states that Clara Michaels operated the Women’s Fashion Shop at this location. In addition, Mykle T. Jacobs worked as a shoe shiner at 202 1⁄2 E. B St. that same year.
The Braumart Beauty Shop occupied this address in 1946.
From 1961 through 1963, Gladys M. (Wahlstrom) Doucette operated her bookkeeping service here and in 1964, the National Retirement Insurance Company maintained an office.

The Iron Mountain branch of the Detroit & Northern Savings & Loan Association maintained an office at this site from 1966 and 1967, according to the city directory.
Joseph M. Stanke was manager for Filter Queen Sales, a company selling vacuum cleaners, in 1969.
From 1970 through 1972, Lee J. Tobin operated Tobin Home & Cottage Sales business, selling real estate and working as a building contractor.
Then in 1973, Charles and Sharon Van Goetheim operated Peninsula News, a newsstand. Wayne Cerasoli took over operations in 1974 and 1975.
The site has since been home to many other businesses, including Air World Travel & Tours, Camille’s Classic Curl, Allen Painting and Decorating and Eliza’s Salon.
The other photo is a view of the business today. For the past 3 1/2 years the building has been occupied by the salon Blush, owned by Mariah Rose and Natalie Smart.
