Back to the Present

This week’s Back to the Present, provided by the Menominee Range Historical Museums in Iron Mountain, is a 1940s or 1950s view of a portion of the beachfront of Lake Antoine Park in Iron Mountain.

This unused, real photo postcard — identified as “Lake Antoine Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.” — shows the shuffleboard courts near the bathing beach on the eastern shore of Lake Antoine inside the park.

The bath house is visible at the far left in the background.

The other photo is the park’s playground equipment today. Visible in the background is the newly constructed Sunset Beach area, a project done by Lake Antoine Park Partners with the help of community support and sponsorship.

The shuffleboard court area will be the future home of the planned all-accessible playground. This new equipment will include two zero-transfer pieces, along with sensory panels, a music station and communication boards. A cushioned, synthetic turf surface will be laid below the equipment for safety.

LAPP recently launched its “Everyone Plays!” campaign to raise the funds needed for the non-profit’s largest project to date. The total estimated cost is $400,000 for the two-phase plan.

The construction is slated to begin after Labor Day, with Phase II set for 2026.

Those who want to support the campaign can donate on the website at www.lakeantoine.org., the LAPP Facebook page or scan the QR code. They will also have counter donation boxes at several local businesses.
