NEWBERRY — One woman was killed and both drivers seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on M-28 in Luce County.

The crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. Thursday on M-28 near Pentland Township when one of the vehicles crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, according to the Luce County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the vehicles caught fire. A female passenger, age 68, died at the site. Both drivers were transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital with serious injuries, the Luce County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

The highway was closed for several hours after the crash, which remains under investigation by the Luce County Sheriff’s Office. The Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit was assisting in the investigation.
