ISHPEMING — An Ishpeming man is dead after the vehicle he was driving went off the road Monday morning near Clark Creek in Marquette County.

The crash happened about 8:39 a.m. on County Road GGT in Ishpeming Township, when the driver of a 1989 Jeep heading west lost control of the vehicle on a curve and went down an embankment into the tree line, according to a news release from the Ishpeming Township Police Department.

The driver, 48, had to be extricated from the vehicle by 131 Technical Rescue Personnel. He was taken to UP Health System-Marquette.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, the news release states.

The Ishpeming Township Police Department was assisted at the crash by Negaunee Township Fire/EMS, Ishpeming Township Fire, Marquette County Technical Rescue 131, Michigan State Police and Central Dispatch 911.
