CRYSTAL FALLS — A 78-year-old man has been accused of murder after a woman was found dead early Sunday in Crystal Falls Township.

George Walter Kamber was arraigned Thursday in Iron County Trial Court on one count of homicide open murder, a news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office states. Open murder means the degree of murder is not being specified at the outset, according to online information.

He was given a bond of $150,000 cash/surety with conditions.

The sheriff’s office was called about 6:45 a.m. Sunday to Crystal Falls Township “regarding the death of a 76-year-old woman,” according to the sheriff’s office news release sent out late Thursday afternoon. Kamber was taken into custody without incident and charged Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office provided few other details on the death, including the name of the woman, her relationship with Kamber and where exactly they were found. No one was available late Thursday afternoon to speak about the case.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Aspirus EMS, Michigan State Police Crime Lab, the medical examiner’s office, Iron County Central Dispatch and the Iron County Prosecutor’s Office.
