MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Mansfield Memories Committee will host its annual summer service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mansfield Pioneer Church.

The Rev. Jim Janofski of the Randville Bible Church will officiate the ecumenical gathering.

The old pump organ will accompany favorite hymns, with everyone welcome to join in singing.

All are invited to stay for fellowship and food after the service. They remind everyone to bring a lawn chair for comfortable outdoor seating.

There is no admission fee, but a free-will offering will be taken to help defray expenses.

Each year hundreds of people visit this unique historical site and express their appreciation of the efforts for all those who helped with the reconstruction and maintenance of the only church that Mansfield has ever known in its 134-year history.

Those who would like to tour the church and learn more about the site near the Michigamme River in the “Old Mansfield” location can do so before the service.

The church is on Stream Road and can be accessed by turning off M-69 onto the Mansfield Cutoff Road, approximately 6 miles west of Sagola and 4 miles east of Crystal Falls, then continuing on the Cutoff Road to the fork and veering left onto Stream Road.

The church is also listed as a site on Iron County’s Heritage Trail.

The Mansfield Memories Committee has 501(c)(3) status and accepts donations to maintain the church. Donations can be mailed to Sharon Nickels, Treasurer, 257 Wright Road, Crystal Falls MI 49920. Receipts will be sent for all donations.

The church is also available for private rentals. For more information about the service or church, contact Shirley Beck at 906-367-0972 or Sharon Nickels at 906-875-6098.

Starting at $3.50/week.
