Motorcyclist dies in Florence County after collision with deer

FLORENCE, Wis. — One man was killed and a woman had minor injuries after a motorcycle collided with a deer Friday night in the Town of Florence, authorities said.

The passenger on the motorcycle reported the crash on Menominee River Road just before 10 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and Florence County EMS arrived within 10 minutes and attempted life-saving measures on the motorcycle operator, who had severe head trauma, but the 59-year-old male was pronounced dead at the crash site.

The 59-year-old female passenger was treated at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain and later released.

Neither person was wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s office news release. The office did not provide names, citing that the accident remains under investigation.

A partial obituary on page A-2 in today’s Daily News listed a Todd C. McCole, 59, of Florence, as having died Friday. The full obituary will run later this week.

Deputies were assisted at the crash by the Florence Fire Department, Florence County EMS, Integrity Care Paramedics and the Florence County coroner. Marinette County Sheriffs Office also helped with accident reconstruction.
