Man killed after driving wrong way on US 41 in Marinette County
MARINETTE, Wis. — A driver going the wrong way on U.S. 41 died after a head-on crash early Saturday in southern Marinette County, authorities said.
The two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:48 a.m. Saturday north of County Highway M in the Town of Grover, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller.
An investigation indicated a vehicle operated by 30-year-old Jose Javier Mejias Guerra of Marinette was going north in the southbound lane on U.S. 41 when it collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Barbara Gualsaqui-Cabascango, 20, of Chicago, Illinois, the news release states.
Mejias Guerra died, while Gualsaqui-Cabascango had minor injuries.
Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Assisting Marinette County deputies were the Peshtigo Police Department, Marinette Police Department, Grover-Porterfield Fire Department, Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area EMS, and 180 Auto Towing and Recovery.
