Two arrested in Marinette drowning incident

A 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been arrested after the death of a 13-year-old in Marinette, according to the Marinette Police Department.

Officials were dispatched at about 1:33 p.m. Aug. 20 to Government Pier in Marinette on reports of a person possibly drowning. When they arrived, they saw the victim and jumped into the Menominee River from different sides, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

After retrieving the victim, lifesaving efforts were performed as the teen was taken to the Menekaunee Boat landing where EMS was staged. The victim was transported to Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area, then to HSHS St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay.

The victim later died as a result of the incident. An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday, according to the police department.

Charges have been referred to the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office for review. The incident remains under investigation, and the names of those involved were being withheld by police, the Press-Gazette stated.
