DIISD accepting pre-school applications

KINGSFORD — The Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District, Department of Early Childhood Education is accepting Early Head Start and Head Start applications for the current school year.

The ISD has early childhood centers in Iron River, Kingsford, Norway and North Dickinson.

Pregnant mothers and children from birth to age 3 may be eligible for the Early Head Start Program.

Early Head Start offers parent support through weekly home visits that focus on the child’s development. Early Head Start also offers Play and Learn socialization groups designed for infants and toddlers.

Children ages 3 and 4 may be eligible to attend the Head Start preschool program. Children become age eligible on their third birthday and may begin the program at any point during the program year. The program is free to families who qualify, and children are not required to be potty trained prior to enrollment.

Head Start provides a structured play-based learning environment that meets children at their developmental starting place and focuses on all developmental areas. Children will be provided with a free breakfast, lunch and snack throughout the day. Busing is provided at no cost.
