QUINNESEC — The community contributions of the late Mary E. Dixon have been recognized in the naming of a Quinnesec tot lot in her honor.
Family members received a resolution at a township board meeting this week as Supervisor Denny Olson said he remembered when the playground “was still a dream.”
Dixon, who died in 2021 at age 83, organized the Quinnesec School Playground Association in 1996 to establish a park and playground after the Quinnesec School was demolished.
Olson on Monday remarked it took countless “spaghetti dinners and other fundraisers” led by Dixon to see the project through. Dixon managed the Quinnesec ice rink for 38 years and the township’s resolution notes “her willingness to put time and effort to ensure each child had access to skates, regardless of their financial situation.”
The resolution further cites “Mary’s unwavering commitment for recognizing needs and turning them into opportunities for connection and care.”
The dedication of the Mary E. Dixon Tot Lot by the township board is “an extension of their gratitude for Mary’s years of service and the spirit of community she has inspired,” the resolution states.
Mary Dixon’s husband of 40 years, William Dixon of Quinnesec, was among the family members on hand to accept the resolution.
