IRON MOUNTAIN — Construction is underway for the new accessible playground at Lake Antoine Park in Iron Mountain.
A portion of the concrete work was completed Thursday, which includes sidewalks and curbing.
Construction of a new pathway that will connect to the new space to the beachhouse and handicap parking spaces will continue into next week.
The smooth surfaces will allow for wheelchairs users to maneuver around the recreation pieces and easy access the beachhouse area, Lake Antoine Park Partners Treasurer Ann Hruska said.
Playground equipment for Phase 1 of the project features nine pieces, including a zero-transfer swing, traditional swings, two sensory panels and five musical pieces.

Hruska noted that representatives from the playground company are expected to be here on Sept. 22 to begin assembly.
“Installation of equipment is suppose to take about two weeks,” she added.
Work on the project began Sept. 5 with the removal of the former cement game courts. Former boundaries of the current playground areas were also removed and the grounds leveled for the new equipment.
The area will be roped off while construction is going on, she noted.
LAPP is moving forward with fundraising to complete Phase 2 of the project next year.
Donations from local civic organizations, residents, businesses in addition to the substantial grant monies are being invested in the “Everyone Plays” all inclusive area.
