LaFave launches state Senate campaign
BEAU LaFAVE
Former state Rep. Beau LaFave has joined three other candidates seeking to replace term-limited state Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Waucedah Township, in Michigan’s 38th District.
LaFave, an Iron Mountain Republican, represented Michigan’s 108th House District from 2017 to 2022.
“After serving six years as the state representative for Dickinson, Delta and Menominee counties, I left office due to term limits,” LaFave said in a recent Facebook post. “Unfortunately, the current U.P. state senator must also leave office for the same reason.”
LaFave shared his campaign announcement with The Daily News on Tuesday.
The general election for the Senate seat is Nov. 3, 2026. The primary election date is Aug. 4.
Two other Republicans have announced campaigns — state Rep. David Prestin, R-Cedar River, and Chris Reynolds of Rock, a teacher at Mid Peninsula.
Kelli Van Ginhoven, a Delta County commissioner, is a Democratic candidate.
LaFave said as a state representative he introduced Articles of Impeachment against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for “corrupt conduct” in office and worked to keep the Department of Natural Resources in check.
“I fought the vaccine mandates, forcing kids against their will to wear masks in schools, the overreaching DNR, tax increases, and gun control,” he said.
“I will defend U.P. values and our way of life against the predations of Lansing special interests. I imagine in the coming weeks and months you will hear about other good Republican candidates. Just remember that I was born here, I was raised here, and I’m willing to die defending it,” LaFave said.
