New YMCA fundraising event planned Saturday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Tickets for the 11th Northern Lights YMCA’s annual campaign event, set for Saturday at the St. Anthony’s Church Hall in Niagara, Wis., are available now and selling fast.

“Formerly known as Corks & Forks, last year’s new spin on an old classic was a welcome change and just what we needed to bring the event back to life like never before,” organizers stated. “We couldn’t be more excited to announce to you this year’s theme, Ritz & Raffles — ‘The Flight Club.'”

This year’s twist is an event where a password opens the door to a 1920s-inspired evening. Guests are encouraged to dress the part — think flapper dresses, fedoras, pearls and pinstripes — and prepare for an unforgettable night in support of the Y’s community programs. Each year this event raises more than $14,000 for scholarship opportunities for those most vulnerable in the community.

Proceeds from the event support the YMCA’s annual campaign, which provides financial assistance for membership and helps subsidize programming at the Dickinson Center.

The evening, which begins with a social hour at 6 p.m., will feature hors d’oeuvres, flights of beer and wine, beautiful gift baskets, 50/50 drawings, silent auction, door prizes, a specially designed jewelry piece from Erickson Jewelers, and this year live music by Victorious featuring Vicky Bourassa. At 8 p.m. as they wrap up the drawings, attendees are invited to stay awhile and dance to music provided by DJ Curio.

Organizers present a “tip of the fedora” to their event sponsors — Bacco Construction, Marshfield Medical Center, Town & Country Ford and Erickson Jewelers, plus the silent ones that keep events like these possible.

“Like a true speakeasy, this event is all about coming together, sharing good times and supporting each other. We’re excited to bring a taste of the past to our fundraising efforts by creating a memorable night that helps fuel the future of the YMCA,” said Wendy Schmitt, Dickinson center director.

Tickets for this year’s event are $45 per person, $80 per couple or $320 for a table of eight and are available at the YMCA front desk or by phone at 906-774-4076.

Starting at $3.50/week.
