Attic fire reported in Vulcan Street apartment building
No injuries were reported as Iron Mountain Fire Department extinguished an attic fire Sunday night in an apartment building at 505 Vulcan St.
A crew was dispatched at 6:07 p.m. after smoke detectors were activated and smoke was observed, the department said in a news release.
Crews arrived in under three minutes to find moderate smoke filling the bottom apartment, said Jeff Solka, director of police and fire services.
Crews searched all units, making sure occupants were out of the building, he said. The fire was located in an attic and extinguished. An overhaul was completed to ensure the fire did not spread to any of the other apartment units.
The cause of the fire, which does not appear suspicious, remains under investigation, Solka said.
The department initially responded with an engine and four firefighters. After a recall of off-duty personnel, an additional six firefighters, an engine, aerial, brush truck and a utility pickup arrived.
Assisting were Iron Mountain Police Department, Iron Mountain Department of Public Works, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and DTE.
