City elections slated for Tuesday in region

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Tuesday as city elections take place in Dickinson and Iron counties.

A millage referendum is on the ballot in the North Central School District.

A summary of the races:

KINGSFORD

Incumbent council members Dennis Baldinelli and Joe Groeneveld are challenged by Angela Olson. The race is for two seats on the five-member council.

IRON MOUNTAIN

Voters are being asked to approve an increase in council pay to $25 per meeting up to a maximum of $1,250 per year. The current pay rate of $10 per meeting and a maximum of $500 per year has been in place since 1985. The new scale, if approved, would take effect Jan. 1.

Three incumbent members of the seven-member Iron Mountain City Council are unopposed — Dale Alessandrini in Ward 1, David Farragh in Ward 2 and Cathy Tomassoni in Ward 3.

NORWAY

Three candidates have filed for three seats on the five-member Norway City Council — Sarah Langlais and incumbents Jeff Muraro and Ricki Steigerwald. Incumbent Bret Kraemer is not seeking reelection.

WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP

Clarissa Dixon is the lone candidate for a partial term as West Branch Township supervisor ending Nov. 20, 2026. She is running without party affiliation for the partisan position.

IRON RIVER

Four candidates are vying for two Iron River City Council seats. Incumbents Anthony Clements and Benjamin Garcia are challenged by Martha Burdick and Mark Polley.

CASPIAN

There are three candidates for two Caspian City Commission seats. Incumbents Michael Stachowicz and Ancella Thurston face a challenge from Paul Eident.

GAASTRA

Incumbent Richard Holm is unopposed for mayor, while James Mortl and incumbent Tony Holm are unopposed for two city commission seats.

NORTH CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Voters in Meyer Township, Spalding Township and parts of Gourley and Harris Townships will be asked to approve borrowing $10.3 million to help consolidate the district’s schools into one facility. The estimated millage needed for the proposed bonds in 2026 is 2.8 mills, or $2.80 per $1,000 of taxable valuation, for a 2.2 mills net increase over the prior year’s levy. More than half the anticipated $26 million cost for the project is being covered by a state grant.

Starting at $3.50/week.
