Pay increase OK’d for IM council
Several incumbents defeated in Dickinson-Iron city races
Iron Mountain City Council members will see a pay increase for the first time in 40 years under a city charter amendment approved in Tuesday’s election.
Effective Jan. 1, the new pay scale will be $25 per meeting, up to a maximum of $1,250 per year. The current pay scale, set when the charter was adopted in 1985, is $10 per meeting and a maximum of $500 per year.
Tuesday’s vote was 376 yes to 262 no.
Over the past decade, several attempts to adopt a pay increase had failed. A proposed increase to $30 per meeting and up to $1,500 per year was rejected in August 2024, 565 no to 543 yes.
