Anonymous donation supports student camp and extracurricular participation

Edward G. Kovochich

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School is grateful for a recent anonymous donation of $1,790 to the Sullivan Extra-Curricular Scholarship Fund in memory of Edward G. Kovochich.

Kovochich graduated from IMHS with the Class of 1968 and went on to become a lifelong educator and leader. He taught at both the middle and high school levels for many years before becoming an administrator. According to his wife, Mary Jo, education meant a great deal to him. He devoted himself to ensuring that their five sons had the opportunity to attend the state university of their choice. Within his district, he was widely recognized as a strong leader and the dependable “go-to” person when difficult problems needed solving.

The donor wished to honor Kovochich’s memory by contributing to a scholarship at IMHS that would benefit all students. The Walter Sullivan Activity Fund, established in 2007 and first awarded in 2008, supports middle and high school students in attending camps and youth programs — such as sports camps, music camps, summer camps and leadership programs. The donor selected this fund because they believed Kovochich would have loved helping students access enriching camp and youth opportunities.

This generous contribution has already allowed two students to attend the MyLead Leadership Conference at Michigan State University this past summer. Many more students will benefit from the fund in the months and years ahead, gaining access to experiences they may not otherwise have had.

Kovochich’s memory, and his lifelong dedication to children and education, continues to make a meaningful impact on students at Iron Mountain Public Schools. The district extends its profound gratitude to the anonymous donor and honors Kovochich for the legacy he leaves behind.

Starting at $3.50/week.
