Back to the Present

An undated photograph of downtown Norway decorated for the holidays. Submitted photo

This week’s Back to the Present, provided by the Jake Menghini Historical Museum, is a view of Main Street in Norway.

The undated photograph shows off the downtown lit up for Christmas.

The annual Christmas in Norway tradition is set this weekend.

On Friday, the event will kick off with local businesses offering extended hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Each will have different specials, giveaways, refreshments and snacks.

Mrs. Claus will light the city’s Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m. at the band shell on Main Street, with a fireworks display from Norway Hill to follow.

The parade, which starts near St. Mary Catholic Church on Main Street, begins about 6 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will travel to City Hall immediately after the parade to hear children’s wishes.

Festivities continue on Saturday, as the Jake Menghini Museum Partners will present “Christmas Eras” from 2 to 6 p.m.

The event will feature live actors portraying Christmas traditions from the Victorian, Mid-Century and Pioneer eras in each of the museum’s buildings.

They will also have carolers, crafts and a holiday market.

Admission is $5 for adults.
