IRON MOUNTAIN — Free Christmas-season meals will again be available in several area communities.

They include —

— A Christmas dinner will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 424 Olive Ave. in Florence, Wis.

The meal will include ham with all the fixings. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 715-616-2498.

— First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford will offer a hot meal on Christmas Day, either by delivery or drive-through pick-up.

This free ham dinner with mashed potatoes, corn, cole slaw, rice pudding, a dinner roll and dessert can be delivered directly to homes starting at 11 a.m. or picked up from 11 a.m. until noon at the church.

Those picking up meals should enter the parking lot using the Hamilton Avenue entrance, where attendants will then guide drivers into the right line.

Reservations are required and must be made by Saturday by calling the church office at 906-774-4211.

Anyone interested in helping deliver meals also can sign up by calling the same number.

The church served their first Christmas Day community meal in December 1993. Last year they prepared 663 meals. They had 42 cake makers, 36 drivers and 69 in-house volunteers.

— The First Baptist Church in Iron River will again partner with Bump’s Burgers to provide a free meal from noon to 3 p.m. Christmas day.

The menu includes glazed ham with cream sauce, scalloped potatoes, candied carrots, dinner roll, milk and dessert.

The dining room at Bump’s Burgers, 19 W. Genesee St., will be open for the public to eat on site or pick up meals. No reservations are needed for seating; the hostess will provide directions on where to go.

The meal is free but donations will be accepted.

Meals can be delivered as well, starting at 12:30 p.m. Those planning to take part are asked to call Bump’s Burgers at 906-284-7608 during business hours or order online at www.FirstBaptistIronRiver.org/Christmas or call Christmas day.

They are seeking volunteer delivery drivers as well — those interested should come to the restaurant and talk to the hostess.

Starting at $3.50/week.
