IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain Skating Club will present a holiday show at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain View Ice Arena, 400 E. Hughitt St. in Iron Mountain.

Club president Stephanie Mitchell said the show will give the members a chance to do their own routines, with about 25 acts slated to be performed by members from age 4 to 17.

“They will each doing about a minute of their own choreographed numbers with their own music choices and their own costume choices,” she said. “It’s like our fun event for the year because everybody always tells them what they need to do, so this is their chance to do what they want.”

They roll it into a holiday show, with the admission price being donations for local charities. This year they are collecting money and items for school programs that fill back packs with food items to get students in need through the weekend. This is the second year raising money for this program.

Items that can be donated include granola bars, fruit cups and fruit snacks, juices, individually packaged snack items, mac and cheese cups, soups, canned meals such as ravioli — things children can make or consume on their own, without someone else doing the preparation.

The items will be distributed evenly to the local schools. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

“My solo is my competition number because I really like doing it and the duet is something me and my sister are doing for fun,” said 13-year-old Kerianna Hayes. She has been in the skating club for a number of years. Her 15-year-old sister, Sonja, will be in the duet.

Twelve-year-old Linh Nguyen, in her first year of skating, plans to do a free skating program. She enjoys the artistry of skating, she said.

“They’re really excited. A lot of time, with kids who do competitions, and the coaches are telling them what they should be doing to do or there’s rules to what they can do. They are putting it all together by themselves,” Mitchell said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
