Peak26 Collaborators announces virtual pitch competition

MARQUETTE — Submissions are open for the second Mini Pitch Competition, a digital event designed for high school and college students in the Upper Peninsula to showcase their innovative business and product ideas for the Peak26 conference. Conference collaborators include Innovate Marquette, SISU: The Innovation Institute at NMU, and NMU College of Business.

The Mini Pitch provides students with an opportunity to present their ideas as an individual or part of a team — without the pressure of a formal business plan or live presentation. This virtual competition allows students to submit a short video explaining their business concept or product idea for a chance to win $500. There will be a high school winner and a college winner, totaling $1,000 going to local students.

The application deadline is Thursday, Feb. 5. A panel of judges will review the submissions and winners will be announced at the Mini Pitch Reception, Feb. 19, on the campus of Northern Michigan University. They can apply at https://innovatemarquette.org/events/mini-pitch/.

Peak26 is a conference hosted by Innovate Marquette and SISU: The Innovation Institute at NMU. In partnership with NMU College of Business, Peak26 collaborators are hosting the Mini Pitch as part of the Ascent Series — a series of events leading up to Peak26. More conference details on Peak26 are to be announced soon.

How to participate in the Mini Pitch:

— High school and college students currently enrolled in classes in the Upper Peninsula are encouraged to participate, either individually or as part of a team. Teams may consist of 2-5 students.

— They can submit a video up to three minutes in length.

— They can record or create a video briefly explaining their idea, product, or business concept. No established business or formal business plan is needed. Judges are looking for creativity and originality.
