IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School has announced that two students have received the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit, provided by Michigan Technological University.
Senior Georgia Mundy and junior Tessa Vicenzi were honored for their excellence in mathematics and science and were nominated by their IMHS math and science teachers.
Michigan Tech has a longstanding tradition of recognizing students who demonstrate exceptional achievement and potential in science and engineering. The university has participated in the SWE Certificate of Merit program since 1973, recognizing female students who excel in math and science while introducing them to opportunities in engineering-related fields.
By recognizing female students in these STEM areas, the Society of Women Engineers seeks to encourage young women to reach their full potential as engineers and leaders, broaden the image of the engineering profession, and highlight the value of diversity within the field.
Mundy and Vicenzi exemplify strong academic achievement, active school involvement, and outstanding performance in both mathematics and science. Iron Mountain High School congratulates these exceptional students on their well-deserved recognition.
Mundy is the daughter of Erin and Craig Recla of Iron Mountain and George Mundy of Iron Mountain. Vicenzi is the daughter of Alexis and Anthony Vicenzi of Iron Mountain.
