Beginning Beekeeping class offered Feb. 14

NORWAY — Northwoods Beekeepers will have its popular Beginning Beekeeping class from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Crossroads Alliance Church in Norway.

“Beekeeping is rewarding on many levels,” says Gino Venditti, veteran beekeeper in Iron Mountain. “Honey bees are fascinating, and it takes specific knowledge to help them to thrive and produce honey for the beekeeper.”

Local beekeepers will teach the three-hour class. Participants will gain a realistic understanding of what is involved in becoming a beekeeper, including necessary equipment, basic costs, and how to install and inspect a bee colony. The event will include whole-group presentations and breakout sessions for more focused learning.

For registration or more information, contact Northwoods Beekeepers at borderlandbeeks@gmail.com or 906-221-3368 by Thursday, Feb. 12. While the class is free, donations are welcome to cover costs.

Northwoods Beekeepers is a network of beekeepers on the border of the south-central Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin. Its goal is to support and educate each other and the community about the benefits and issues of keeping bees.

Starting at $3.50/week.
