WAKEFIELD — One person is dead after a fire early Tuesday in a house in Gogebic County.

According to a news release from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, emergency workers at 5:26 a.m. Tuesday found one person outside the home on Kronberg Road in Wakefield Township. That individual, who officials have not identified, said a second person was still inside and provided a general location.

After smoke and flames stopped initial attempts, firefighters wearing special breathing gear were able to enter the house and found the person in a bedroom. The individual, however, was pronounced dead on site. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Wakefield City Fire Department, the Bessemer Township Fire Department, Beacon Ambulance and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
