ST. IGNACE — A 61-year-old man from downstate Michigan died today in a snowmobile crash in Mackinac County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post were called just before 1 p.m. today to Bay City Lake Road near Trail 47 in Clark Township, according to an MSP news release.

A preliminary investigation found the snowmobile driver, from Saline in Washtenaw County, hit a bump in the trail and was ejected. Emergency medical aid was unsuccessful.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash, the MSP news release states.

“We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District public information officer.

MSP was assisted by Clark Township EMS, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
