NIAGARA, Wis. — Who’s Alibi, a bar with new name but a long history in Niagara, has been reopened after getting a refreshed look.
The bar at 716 Vine St. was purchased in January 2025 by Gibby and Crystal LaFave and Crystal’s mother, Wendy DeClark.
The building was originality a garage that was converted into a tavern by Louis Heisenfieldt in 1933, according to information in the Niagara Centennial book.
It became the Alibi in 1952, after it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Neveau. Bruce and Delores Kelly bought the bar next and called it Kelly’s Alibi, then it was purchased by Woody Lafin and was known as Woody’s Alibi in the early 1970s.
It has had many other names through the years, including prior to the Alibi, the S & S Spot Club, and following as the Moonraker, Fred’s Place, One More Time Saloon, Great Northern BBQ, Fox’s Den, Nellie’s Place, Tailgate Sports Bar, Starky’s, Goodtime, Papa Lou’s, Bennett’s Roadhaus Saloon and the Bunker.

The three also own Who’s Next in Aurora, Wis., which they purchased from DeClark’s brother in 2024, so they chose to name it Who’s Alibi.
The bar was completely renovated by Gibby, with some helpers. They ripped up carpet, installed new flooring, redid the electrical and plumbing, added new walls with hardwood. The bathrooms have been remodeled and a lot of work was also done in the basement.
“The renovation started right away,” Gibby said. “It turned out pretty good considering what it was like before.”
One of the reasons they purchased the bar is because Gibby likes working on buildings.
“I enjoy remodeling — taking something and making it nice, sprucing up homes. I like flipping houses; it’s a passion of mine,” he said.

Although they opened in September, work on the bar has continued. They just completed the first layer of flooring in the kitchen and have one more layer to apply. They also added new lights and three whiskey barrel tables.
After work in the kitchen is complete, they will install new kitchen equipment. They hope to be serving food by spring. The menu is not complete but they plan to serve things like steak sandwiches, burgers, pizza and have fish fries on Fridays, according to Gibby.
The bar also sponsors a dart team and two men’s pool teams.
“It’s a nice, cozy bar with great bartenders. I love coming in here,” Crystal said.
The bar opens daily at noon. It can be reached at 906-239-6089.
