IRON MOUNTAIN — A Vulcan couple got the best New Year’s gift — the first baby born in 2026 at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.

Anna and Andrew Hutchinson of Vulcan welcomed a son, Archer Lynn, at 9:57 a.m. Jan. 1, 2026. He weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 18 inches long. The first New Year’s baby was delivered by Dr. Ellen Bianchi, assisted by RNC Tillie Rossato and RN Carli Stromberg.

The couple said they were very surprised by the arrival of their first child, as his due date was Jan. 25.

The couple had gone to the Knight Owl Sports Bar & Grill in Norway for New Year’s Eve dinner.

“I was feeling weird all week,” Anna Hutchinson said. “We were having dinner and all of a sudden I said, ‘I think my water broke.'”

They headed to the OB department about 8 p.m.

Anna said despite the baby coming more than three weeks early, she and Archer are doing great.

Andrew Hutchinson said they knew they were expecting a boy.

When it came to choosing a name for their son, they wanted to keep the Hutchinson family tradition with an “A” name.

“It started with my father and his siblings all having A names,” said Andrew Hutchinson, noting his father also married someone with an “A” name.

“Me and my brothers’ first names all start with an ‘A’ and I married an A name, so we had to keep the ‘A’ in the family,” he said. “We liked, too, the name Archer.”

His middle name, Lynn, was chosen after Anna’s mother’s middle name, which was also Jenny’s grandfather’s name.

Grandparents are Allen and Amy Hutchinson and Joseph and Jenny VanDyck, all of Manistique.

Great-grandparents are James and Pat Hollar of Statesville, N.C., and Paul and Sharon Hutchinson of Manistique.

The couple thanks Dr. Bianchi and all the nurses for a great experience.

The Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Birth Center had a baby born at 7:40 p.m. Dec. 31, who they thought was going to be the first in 2026.
