ALGER COUNTY — A 22-year-old Ohio man was killed Saturday night in a snowmobile crash in Alger County.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Negaunee post were called about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to Snowmobile Trail 8 near County Road H-58 in Shingleton Township, according to a MSP news release.

The preliminary investigation indicated the snowmobile was traveling on Trail 8 when the driver was unable to negotiate a corner on the trail and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

Emergency medical aid was unsuccessful. The name of the individual, who was from Garrettsville, Ohio, was not released.

“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this loss,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District public information officer.

MSP was assisted by Alger County EMS and Alger County Rescue 21.
