IRON MOUNTAIN — Twenty-three was an unlucky number for the Kiwanis Ski Club, as high winds forced cancellation of this weekend’s FIS Continental Cup ski jumping tournament at Pine Mountain.
The last time the entire tournament was called off due to weather was 2003 — 23 years ago — also because of high winds.
Organizers held out hope throughout the day Saturday that a break in the weather could allow a competition to begin, but frequent gusts prevented it. A huge crowd remained on site throughout the day.
No tournament was held in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
