BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Fundraising efforts are underway for a Breitung Township family that lost their home on M-95 to fire Friday night.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Tom and Sarah Neeley and their son, Cole, at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-tom-sarah-cole-rebuild-after-house-fire.

Few details were available on the fire Friday night, which led authorities to shut down both lanes of M-95 between Merriman West and Johnson roads for several hours, detouring traffic to the west. Swanson Road, off the detour, was closed as well while crews battled the blaze.

According to the GoFundMe page, the Neeleys were at Bible study Friday evening — Tom Neeley is listed online as associate pastor of family ministries at First Baptist Church of Norway — when they got word of the fire at their home.

“By the time they arrived, the house and garage were completely destroyed, along with their truck and all of their belongings. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the impact on their lives is clear and overwhelming,” the post by Tim Ice states.

“Now, Tom, Sarah, and Cole are facing the difficult task of starting over from scratch. They are in urgent need of essentials like clothing and basic necessities. Cole, who had just returned home from basic training for the Army National Guard, also lost everything he owned in the fire. The family is doing their best to stay strong, but the road ahead is long and uncertain.”

The post added, “Tom, Sarah, and Cole are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet — a great Christian family who would help anyone in need. They are sincerely in need of support however anyone can give. Anything you can donate, whether it be monetary, clothing, or prayers, would be greatly appreciated. Your kindness will help them rebuild their lives and remind them that they are not alone in this difficult time.”

As of Sunday night, the GoFundMe page had raised $3,000 of its $9,000 goal, with 19 donations.

A fund for the Neeley family also had been set up at Forward Financial Credit Union.

Starting at $3.50/week.
