KINGSFORD — The Kingsford City Council on Monday authorized seeking engineering bids for two projects that will be completed after July 1 and be included in next year’s budget.

One project will be to install a sewer line in the alley of the 400 block between Doraland and Roseland streets, which will be completed in two phases.

City Manager Mike Stelmaszek told the council that Habitat for Humanity Menominee River owns all the lots on that block of Doraland and the city owns property on Roseland. The new sewer would help new construction projects on both sides of the alley. Habitat is currently building a house on the corner of Hoadley Avenue and Doraland.

Because of the terrain of the property on the block, the houses that Habitat builds will all have entrances toward the alley.

The city also plans to repair a wall in the alley of the 200 block between Cleveland and Harrison Avenues in the Heights.

In other business, the council:

— Approved a pay request for about $299,634 from Ryan Morgan of GEI Consultants for sewer and water project No. 2. Morgan reported on some upcoming change orders for project No. 3. They are shifting more funds to well house No. 5 because it has more extensive damage. More information will be available in spring. Morgan also told the council he will be leaving GEI and moving from the area. “It was an honor to work the city, to be working with you guys. I’m leaving you in good hands. We have a great team,” Morgan said. The city thanked him for his work on the city’s water and sewer projects.

— Authorized sending city employee Luke Kaminski to water certification training in Ishpeming on April 15-16, at a cost of $400. The council also approved allowing him to take his S3 water certification test May 6 in Marquette.

— Learned Shane Visintainer has been hired as water department crew leader. He had worked for the Iron Mountain Department of Public Works since 2012.

— Will allow Breitung Township Schools to have streets closed in the area of Flivver Field stadium on May 23 for graduation and May 30 for the Upper Peninsula Track finals. Stelmaszek said they will coordinate with Payne & Dolan, which will be working on projects in the area.

— Approved a request to have the fourth-annual Northpointe 5K Color Walk/Run on Saturday, May 16. Stelmaszek said the route shouldn’t conflict with any construction.
