NIAGARA, Wis. — Niagara will look for the most cost-effective ways to repair 45 manholes that are deteriorating on U.S. 141.
The city crew may be able to fix them, but it would be time-consuming and they would have to block the road in areas being repaired.
City Manager/Clerk/Treasurer Audrey Fredrick said they have had discussions with the state regarding the poor condition of the road, which is cracking due to frost. The state is not expected to do repairs until 2033.
The city is also adding Mill Street to its application for funding water and sewer projects on Hill and Forest streets. Officials are working with Cedar Corporation of Wisconsin to secure funds. Videos of the sewer lines have been completed and it will save the city money to complete the application for all three streets at once.
Fredrick said they have been considering repairs to Mill Street for some time because the lines are in very bad condition.

The city received $3.6 million in state grants from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for road improvements through the Surface Transportation Program to resurface Hill and Forest streets. It has until 2029 to repair the roads but would need to complete the infrastructure improvements before 2027.
In other business, the city council:

— Acknowledged a $12,000 donation from Fred “Fritz” and Ann Rouse for beautification projects in the city.

— Approved an application from city public works employee Andrew Gerwig to join the Niagara Volunteer Fire Department.
— Approved a liquor license requisition from the Niagara Knights of Columbus and a temporary operator license to Bob Burton for the club’s smear tournament Feb. 14 at St. Anthony’s Hall.
