NIAGARA, Wis. — The Niagara Area Emergency Unit raised $5,030.95 at the Toilet Bowl Trauma Trot fundraiser on Saturday.
“We had a great turnout,” said organizer Tracy Daun, noting they drew about 200 spectators for the inaugural event that took place behind Niagara City Hall.
In addition to the Outhouse/Porta Potty Races and Chili Cook-Off, they had children’s games, raffle baskets and 50-50 drawings.
The theme for the porta potty decor was “Speed, Spice, and Sanitary Glory.” Racing teams consisted of three members — two to push and one to ride on the seat.
The “Bread Sled” team was the Toilet Bowl Champs, with the “S–t Show” coming in second and the “Pit Stop Poopers” taking home third place. The top two teams were sponsored by the Niagara Area Business Association and the Pit Stop sponsored the third-place team.

“Bread Sled” team members were Kaden Courts, captain; Noah Wheeler; and Myles Laarman.
“We had a total of seven porta potty entries,” Daun said. “They had a lot of fun with them and were very creative with their designs.”
The People’s Choice winner was “Forward Flushin’ Liquid Assets,” sponsored by Forward Financial. Other teams were “Hot Tar + Cold Seat,” sponsored by Okler Roofing; “Got the Runs,” sponsored by NABA; and”The Stinky Pinkies,” sponsored by Frog 101.5 WJNR.
Ryan Okler was the People’s Choice winner of the chili contest with his After Burner Bean Bomb recipe.
“We also had three judges’ selections,” Daun said, adding they had a total of 11 homemade chili entries. The top three judges’ selections were Jenny Nickels with Bloody Mary chili, Kelly Hayes with the Garden of Eatin’ Chili and Okler’s entry.

“They pretty much ran out of chili at the end, which was great,” Daun said.
Attendees were already talking about bringing back the event with some new additions, she said, such as a kids division in the porta potty races.
The idea developed from a city worker’s suggestion as well as an annual event in Trenary — the Outhouse Classic.
“Everyone was very enthusiastic and had so much fun,” photographer Karen Klenke said. “All ages came out to support this new fundraiser — it was great.”
