Stephenson man arrested for criminal sexual conduct

MENOMINEE COUNTY – A Stephenson man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor after an investigation that began in Daggett Township in 2025.

Jamil Gomez-Castro, 30, was taken in custody after the Menominee County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the investigation and issued charges, according to a news release.

He was arraigned Friday in the 95A District Court on two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the third degree.

Gomez-Castro remains in the Menominee County Jail on a $25,000 cash/surety bond. He is set to return to court for a preliminary examination March 19 with his attorney, Alex Sieminski.

While there have recently been multiple arrests regarding criminal sexual conduct in the area, the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Daily Press this case is unrelated specifically to the cases of Travis Scott Thiry and Rocquel Anne Irving, who both face multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child younger than 13.

Both Daggett residents were arrested Jan. 28, one day before Gomez-Castro’s arrest, after a property search in Lake Township in Menominee County, Menominee Sheriff Darrin Kudwa stated in a news release last week.

Thiry, 44, was arraigned Thursday in the 95A District Court on five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13, one count of accosting children for immoral purposes and one count of selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Thiry also has a domestic violence charge from a separate case and is set to appear in court for a pretrial conference on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Irving, 38, was arraigned as well Thursday on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13, three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of accosting children for immoral purposes, one count of gross indecency between females and one count of selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Both remain in the Menominee County Jail on a $750,000 cash bond.

Being convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct is punishable by up to life in prison or any term of years, but not less than 25 years, if the violation was committed by an individual aged 17 years or older against an individual younger than 13 years old.

The case remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kudwa encourages anyone with information about a crime to call the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers serving Marinette and Menominee Counties, www.mmcrimestoppers.com.
