IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools hosted district spelling bees Jan. 28 for fifth through eighth graders at Iron Mountain and Kingsford.
Fifth-grade winners from Kingsford were Zoe Henry, champion, and Avril Peterson, runner up. From Iron Mountain, Audrey Stuer was champion and Eva Burns runner up.
Sixth grade winners from Kingsford were champion Cecelia Pipp and runner up Miles Harrison. From Iron Mountain, the winners were Rebecca Cameron, champion, and Emma Hoy, runner up.
Seventh grade winners from Iron Mountain were Emberli Helms, champion, and Charlotte Holsworth, runner up. From Kingsford the winners were champion Caden Tafoya and runner up Jaden Netto.
Eighth grade winners from Iron Mountain were Mason Querio, champion, and Amalie Cameron, runner up. Gavin Robertson was the champion from Kingsford and Ella Melnik runner up.

The top two spellers from each school, in each grade level, move on to compete at the regional spelling bee Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Kingsford. The regional bee contestants represent Forest Park, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, North Dickinson and Norway-Vulcan.
The top two spellers in each grade level will qualify to compete at the U.P. Spelling Bee Finals on Wednesday, March 12. The Upper Peninsula Community Education U.P. Spelling Bee Finals will be hosted by Ishpeming-Negaunee-NICE Community Schools.
