KINGSFORD — Fancy a bouquet of flowers made of old silverware? Or maybe a car and wagon built from a vintage sewing machine?
These are just a couple examples of the projects that will be available during Habitat for Humanity Menominee River’s Flip it Forward Art & Auction planned on Thursday, March 12, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Kingsford.
The inaugural event, a fundraiser for HFHMR, will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and features hor d’oeuvres by Homemade by Patti and a cash bar, as well as a live auction.
Director Kathy Kulas said they have about 24 people doing projects — which is more than double what they expected. All but five have been turned in so far.
Community members were invited to create or refresh items from the ReStore from several categories including: Take a Seat, Shine a Light on It, Fur & Feather, Cool Tools, Yooperific, Trash to Treasure, Stowaway: “Trunk” for your “Junk” and Wildcard.

“It’s been really fun seeing what people came up with,” Kulas said.
Four cash prizes will be handed out: Best in Show, $250; People’s Choice, $100; Highest Price Percent Increase, $100; and Flip of Fate, based on a random drawing of participants, $50.
The unique items, some big and some small, are on display at the Habitat ReStore until the auction. There’s a 1926 radio cabinet turned into a little tea table. A coffee table has now become a doggy bed. An old air duct has been turned into a fish. A car with a wagon and a steering wheel and tires that turn was created from a vintage 1920 Singer Sewing machine.
Several larger pieces of furniture have also been refinished and given a new look.
Some of the smaller things might be part of baskets that will be raffled off because Kulas thinks they might sell better than through the auction.

Sponsors for the event include Town & Country Sales, the Zonta Club of Iron Mountain and Kingsford, Minerick Logging, Forslund Building Supply, Hall Orthodontics, Finch & Gunville P.C., Northern Interstate Bank and Hometowne Lumber.
Attendees are urged to purchase tickets in advance at the ReStore, from a board member, on the HFHMR website at https://habitatmr.com/, on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/habitat.river/ or by using the QR code. Tickets are $60 per person or $100 for two.
