Woman dies after snowmobile crash in Marquette County
MARQUETTE — A woman died Friday after a snowmobile crash in Marquette County’s Chocolay Township near the Alger County line.
Chocolay Township Police were called about 1:30 p.m. Friday to trail 417, with several snowmobilers waiting to transport them to the injured woman, according to a news release.
CPR was in progress on the 44-year-old when they arrived and officers continued until members of the Chocolay Fire Department were able to reach the site.
The woman was transported to an Upper Peninsula Health System Marquette ambulance. Lifesaving measures were continued for some time, but the woman succumbed to her injuries, the news release states.
An an investigation into the accident by Chocolay Township Police, Marquette County Sheriff Special Operations and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is ongoing. They believe the woman hit a dip in the trail, causing her and the sled to leave the trail.
Chocolay Township Police Department was assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff Office Special Operations, Chocolay Township Fire Department, Upper Peninsula Health System Marquette and several other snowmobilers.
