Boy’s death in Gogebic County remains under investigation
IRONWOOD — The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the death of a 2-year-old boy early Thursday in Ironwood Township.
Gogebic County deputies were dispatched about 4:21 a.m. and confirmed the child was deceased, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office, adding there is no danger to the public.
No other details were released on what happened to the child.
“This is a tragic incident. Losing a young member of our community is very hard for all of us,” Gogebic County Sheriff Jorge H. Cruz said in the statement. “We will continue to investigate to determine what happened and will provide further updates to the public when that information is available.”
Deputies secured the site and temporarily closed Lake and Sunset roads. Further investigative resources were requested from the Michigan State Police including personnel from the Marquette Forensic Laboratory.
The sheriff’s office was supported by multiple agencies, including the Michigan State Police Wakefield post, Michigan State Police traffic crash reconstructionist, Ironwood Public Safety Department, Gogebic County Road Commission, Ironwood Township Fire Department and Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
