Illegal weapons seized during Mackinac Bridge traffic stop

ST. IGNACE — A semi-truck driver was arrested on the Mackinac Bridge after Michigan State Police discovered multiple illegal weapons and other violations during a traffic stop.

At about 6:48 p.m. Wednesday, a Motor Carrier Officer from the MSP St. Ignace Post observed a semi-truck, hauling a trailer, that speeding and operating in a hazardous manner, according to a news release.

After making the traffic stop, authorities determined the driver had an active warrant for his arrest and took him into custody without incident.

A subsequent investigation revealed the driver had multiple illegal weapons and did not have a concealed pistol license, or CPL.

Items seized included:

– Fifteen double-edged knives, including three equipped with brass knuckle handles;

– Two throwing stars, each with four double-edged sides;

– Two additional sets of brass knuckles, including one spiked set;

– Five loaded pistols;

– One loaded rifle;

– One shotgun; and

– One large double-edged sword with a 32-inch blade.

Authorities also found the driver had two open containers of alcohol.

Further inspection of the commercial vehicle indicated the driver appeared to have falsified his electronic logging device records, according to the news release.

The driver, 54-year-old Eric Koroscik of Kingwood, Texas, was taken to the Mackinac County Jail. Koroscik was arraigned Thursday in the 92nd District Court in Mackinac County on one count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was issued a personal recognizance bond.

According to the news release, additional charges are being sought for other applicable violations. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 10.
