Snowshoes can be rented at Florence Visitor Center

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence Visitor Center is offering snowshoes rentals for offsite daily use.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and younger for a same-day return by 3 p.m., or they can be rented for multiple days at $20 per adult and $10 for 12 and younger.

All offsite rentals require a $20 per pair cash or check deposit from the person checking the shoeshoes out, which is refunded once the snowshoes are returned. Multiple-day snowshoe rentals can be returned on weekends at the Keyes Peak Ski Hill desk 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday or noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The deposit would then be mailed.

The public can snowshoe for free on the 3/4-mile interpretive trail around their building at 5628 Forestry Drive, on the corner of U.S. 2 and Hwy 70.

The center is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and has information on a variety of snowshoe trails. Florence County has more than 200,000 acres of public access land that can be explored. Visitors can even snowshoe to local waterfalls for a unique frosty winter landscape.

The Wild Rivers Interpretive Center offers local, regional and state level travel brochures; natural resource and historical interpretive displays; wildlife mount displays; an UpNorth-themed gift shop and public restrooms.
